How to create your own webinar in 9 easy steps

We are becoming a lot more digital very quickly, and all the events and marketing have moved online. Jump into the wave with the right knowledge.

Creating webinars is the new way to market your products or your brand as physical events have been canceled until further notice. This could last months, so you better get acquainted with how to stream online to your audience and get cracking!

 

1. Decide the format and content for your webinar

The first step will be to look at what you planned for the year and what content you wanted to put out there to represent your brand, and start selecting the best ones for online streaming.
There are many different formats for webinars so once you know what content to make, it will be much easier for you to pick the right one to use. Here are the main types:
– Panel discussion: For this, you will need a moderator to make sure that the conversations don’t intertwine as with the current technology, sound can be an issue when multiple people talk at the same time. It will also be challenging because you must assume that all the people in the panel will have the right equipment at home.
– Q & A: Someone answers questions either live getting into the stream or via social media platforms/chats where the audience can enter their requests.
– Interview format: Where a presenter interviews a guest.
– One-person show: Where a person talks, presents, entertains or educates an audience. Using a presentation or by themselves.

 

2. Select a Webinar Solution

Once you decide the format and content, you need to find a platform to stream it. Zoom has one of the best platforms around which most of you must be already familiar with.

– Adobe Connect
– WebEx
– ClickMeeting
There is no perfect solution, but you want to find one that adapts to your goal, budget, content, and audience.

 

3. Put a team together, if needed.

Depending on how serious you are, you are going to need help!
Having someone ‘techie’ that can handle the platform, sound, connections, etc. can be beneficial. Then, if you are interviewing people or having guests, someone will have to be contacting candidates. Lastly, someone will need to present. This workload can be all managed by the same person, or it can also be divided into multiple people.

 

4. Set up the right equipment and space

In terms of equipment, similarly that with the team, it varies depending on your budget and/or ambition. You can create a great webinar with your laptop and nothing else, or you can go full-on and get professional microphones, professional web cameras, getting the best online platform to stream your content, etc. The most important is that you remember to charge your laptop, that you check your mic and camera, and that you provide excellent, engaging, valuable content!

 

5. Plan the visuals for and presentation

Visuals should be simple and clear, and the design should reflect your brand identity as obviously as possible. For marketing content, the best is to remember to state the date, time, title, and a clear and catchy description of what it is about. In regards to the webinar itself, visually should always portray the faces very well, have a fairly clean or branded background, and face-to-face perception is critical to keep people engaged. 

 

6. Pick the right date and time

There is a lot of data showing that Monday to Thursday is the best range. During the lockdown, a lot of the webinars are scheduled at mid-morning and mid-afternoon. This is no science, it depends on your audience, content, and industry, but at least it can offer a point of reference.

 

7. Publicize and Promote Your Webinar

Using social media, email newsletters, and paid ads is as standard as it gets. You should at least start promoting the webinar two weeks before the event takes place and make sure that when you use paid ads, you narrow your target audience as much as possible. Creating multiple pieces of content for different target audiences/demographics also increases conversion. Landing pages are also handy, and there are a lot of companies like LeadPages, GetResponce or Unbounce that can help you with that.

 

8. Follow Up with the Attendees

The best way to get better and understand how to improve is by keeping close contact with the people that interact with your content. Set up a mail list, or send them to your social media channels so you can keep in touch and ask relevant questions.

 

9. Keep Practicing

Consistency is the best way to master any skill, and this is no different. Repeat, learn, improve, repeat.
